Emergency Water Supply
PROCEDURE:
In the event of a water failure, after administrative approval, switchboard will announce on the P.A. system the following; “YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE:  The water supply will be temporally shut off. Please refer to the policy in the Safety Manual under Emergency Management.”

DRINKING WATER:
In the event that the hospital's drinking water supply is contaminated and/or unavailable, bottled water is available from Dietary's basement storage and from Culligan Water Systems. Engineering Department shall be responsible for contacting alternative water supply company.

Portable water can be brought by tanker truck, hooked to the valve located in the basement and water will be available at the taps. To request tanker trucks, from the Iowa National Guard call Boone County Emergency Management at 1-515-433-0592 or 911.

Strict water rationing will be enforced and announcements will be placed on the overhead paging system.

QUANTITY/QUALITY:
There will be enough patient drinking water in storage for a five (5) day supply. Boone County Hospital will have one (1) gallon of water per patient per day available. We have an average daily censes of 22 so we will have a minimum of 110 gallons of drinking water available on site. (One 24 bottle case OF 16 oz. bottles = 3 gallons)

Note: Dietary will be responsible to monitor water supply levels and the rotation of the water supply to avoid outdates.

NON-STERILIZED WATER:
Definition - A large base supply of water requiring sterilization if used for human consumption, i.e., drinking water.

The Boone Fire Department will provide a pumper truck if possible, to connect to the Fire Sprinkler Valve.
